2009 Cy Young Award Winner John Crain-Vandelay Little known fact…John Crain in April of 2009 went to the try outs for the Camden Riversharks. He had made a deal with his daughter; that if she was brave he would go to the tryouts. Well fate has it, that John, age 36, pitches and was able to show them an 88 MPH fastball, knuckle and a curve. The scouts brought out the radar guns and John made it all the way to the last round of the 55 pitchers that came out. His family was able to see him on the field pitching and nearly making it. Glad that he did not only for the reason we would not have had such a great Cy Young pitcher for our league. Congrats John maybe next year? 2009 League MVP Scott Kentrus & Mike Collins 2009 HR Derby Champion Mike Collins |
Hall of Fame winners-2009 Rich Ross & Jack Schaub Each of these guys have played in the league for over 30 years….and will continue to play for another 30…… |

Less Filling easily beats Taste Great in the 2004 All Star game. 20-8
Shawn Pringle and Jack Schaub both go 3-3 each hitting a 3 run Home Run and a double of the “wall”. A ceremonial “first pitch” was done by new 2004 Hall of Fame award winner John Schaub. The 5 inning game was heavily favored to the Tastes Great division hosting high profile players. Against the odds, Cy Young winner Greg Armbruster took the mound and the win in this game of Golden Glovers and long ball hitters.

2004 Hall of Fame award winner- John Schaub- Lions Club
John Schaub has come from a family line of ball players. His father played with the 1930’s Road Island Red Legs and later became a scout for Connie Mac and the Phila Athletics. As a boy his father would take him to the dugout at Connie Mac stadium where he often watched the Phila Athletics play the Old Camden Ball Club…a team his father coached and owned. He was even named after a famous 1930’s pitcher who was inducted into the Pennsylvania sports hall of fame in 1997.
After moving to Medford Lakes in 1953 he continued this family tradition by playing in a number of July 4th and Memorial day tournaments..of which he never lost when he pitched here at Brooks field. Later he joined the Lions Club where he played with them for 20 years winning several championships as their pitcher. In 1985 he finished his career with a championship winning catch in deep right field while his son was rounding 3rd base soon to be the tying run in the bottom of the 7th.
I’m very proud to induct into the Medford Lakes Men’s Softball Hall of Fame for 2004, the man who taught me how to play ball…John Schaub.
